Guns & Chiffon
Stories of the 1916 Rising, with a special focus on women
Meeting at the band stand in St Stephen's Green the walk begins with the story of the women's role in the 1916 Rising. Sinéad tells her story using firsthand accounts using the locations of the outposts while telling the story of the Rising.
The Proclamation addressed Irishmen & Irishwomen, offering equality rights and equal opportunities. 300 women took part. Find out why their role was airbrushed out.
Walking at an easy pace to the Royal College of Surgeons, along Camden Street, to Jacob's Factory where women's outposts were located, then to Dublin Castle the location of Ship Street Barracks where women were held, to City Hall, the GPO, Moore Street and ending at the Rotunda, where Elizabeth O'Farrell stood proudly beside PH Pearse as he offered the surrender. What happened next—the stories of these women and the War of Independence & Civil War that followed.

Based on research work Sinéad has collected for her forthcoming book, working title: Spies, Lies & Family Ties, this tour brings you from St Stephen's Green, the secret headquarters of Michael Collins, on Dawson Street, Mespil Road, Ranelagh, Rathmines.
You will hear of secret rooms, daring escapes and the breaking of the empire with the use of codes. The full details of this tour are not described as this is a work that is still being created, so get an unfolding narrative. Each tour is unique and is told as an unfolding story.
